by Bottega La Dolce Vita on 05/22/13
On June 2, 1946, the Italians were called to a referendum to decide freely chose and the kind of government they wanted for their country.
All Italians decided that day, that the nation would be republican, leaving behind 85 years of monarchy and oppression for the Italians. Coupled with this referendum and with help from the United States, Italy is today as important country within the European Union and also considered within eight world powers, and so is Germany, France, Russia and Canada.
The republican form of government, constitutionalism mean. Although this decision the Italian people was late, almost 180 years after the U.S., Britain and France, thus secured the rights of citizens, the equalization of women's rights, democracy, and infrastructure required for a developing country by all sectors. (1950-2000)
For Italians each June 2 is a very special date (Festa della Repubblica), which gives cause for celebration and jubilation of the people united, celebrating democracy, determining the history, lifting the country out of poverty and underdevelopment and this is the only national holiday in Italy, because on this date is celebrated the birth of the republic.
